“The Pros And Cons Of A Low Carb Diet

Is the world of a million fad diets getting you down?

If you are debating about the no-carb, low-carb diet, we have info here that may help you decide whether or not to jump on the bye bye bread wagon or say hello to angel hair pasta.

One benefit of a low-carb, no-carb diet is that you don't have to cut out the foods you may already love.

These foods include meat, cream, cheese, and other high fat foods.

On this type of diet, you can eat as much as you want- just stay away from carbs!

Another benefit of this type of diet is that you are allowed many types of food, which means that the chances of cheating on your diet slim down.

Most people on a low-calorie diet tend to cheat within the first three to four weeks (or DAYS) due to temptations...

History argues that a low carb diet is much more natural for the human body because grains, in the form of wheat, rice, etc. only became a regular part of our diet about 10,000 years ago.

Our bodies have not had time to cope with this properly.

Research indicates that people with Type 2 Diabetes have better insulin function and better blood sugar control on a low carbohydrate diet.

Although some of the benefits sound great, the disadvantages are somewhat scary in comparison.

One major disadvantage of a low-carb, no-carb diet includes your body's usage of fat for energy and more specifically- the metabolic processes behind it.

These processes can lead to increased uric acid and ketones which can cause kidney problems, gout and headaches.

Not only can low-carb diets damage your metabolic processes, there can be low amounts of dietary fiber on a low-carb diet, which can lead to constipation and chronic bowel disease.

Even further, some experts believe that the high amounts of animal fat eaten on a diet, such as the Atkins Diet, can have a bad effect on cholesterol levels and can lead to cardiac disease.

There are so many diets out there today... the South Beach, the RI, Atkins, etc. that it is really hard NOT to get caught up in the hustle of eating properly... on someone else's terms.

What has happened over time is the North American portion has increased in size... and food is accessible everywhere we go.

Documentaries like "Supersize Me" show the dangers of eating fast food and how we as a nation have developed horrid eating habits.

Personally, I believe that the only safe and surefire way to lose weight (and feel great in the process) is to change your LIFESTYLE eating habits.

Cut back on the foods you know you should not eat and decrease your portions. Talk to a nutritionist or a fitness expert to see what they can work out for you.

It is our own eating habits that lead to increased weight so even if we lose weight on a diet, we run the risk of gaining the weight back when we return to our old eating habits.

Choose a "dieting" method that will work for YOU- but keep in mind the health risks that lie beneath some of the fad diets...

Sometimes, staying with the latest "trend" can be very hazardous to your health.
